Education is a fundamental right of every child but what makes the best education? Is it going to the best school? What makes the best school? I encountered the King’s Scholarship during my research for what the highest level of education by age. Assuming the 13 yrs olds can complete these exams, the level of education is really high and is a good starting point.
In the UK, there are state and public schools. The UK state schools provide education to pupils between the ages of 3 and 18 without charge. Public schools, aka private schools, are fee-paying independent schools. The fees are a significant commitment to an average household. So that really divides those who go there and don’t. There are statistics on the numbers from gov.uk.
Eton College is one of the most famous schools in the UK. Although judging from the recent Prime Ministers, that particular school’s outcome has undoubtedly impacted the world but may not be in the best way. Anyway, Eton remains a critical education establishment in the UK. King’s Scholarship Award provides insight into the academic level that 14 students may be able to achieve at 13 yrs old. The Eton website provides the Roll (name of scholars and their schools), which appears to come from selected public schools each year. Tuition services also offer to coach students to win the award. Going to the right school and private tuition services appear to be the two ways to reach the King’s Scholarship academic level.
My aim is to diversify that Roll, so children from any school or background can reach the King’s Scholarship level. In the next 98 blog entries, I will establish a third way of reaching that standard, which is based on self-learning, motivation, and taking responsibility for their own education.
To conclude this episode,
King’s Scholarship is the academic level of interest of this blog. Going to Eton or not is irrelevant, as proved by the love for the recent UK prime ministers. I aim for kids to be able to self-motivate to achieve a high level in subjects of their interests. Imagine generations of kids who excel at the subject that they are passionate about, I think they will make a better world.
