The Road Map

The approach is based on motivation and interests. The free WordPress account will enable the student to create a portfolio to show progress and demonstrate as evidence in future personal statements and interviews.

The generic road-map is shown in Figure 1 below.

A quick recap

The strategy is for the child to focus on their aspirations and what they like to do with parental guidance in their free-time and create a ‘portfolio’ (Checkpoints 1 and 2). BE a Scholar Tuition will provide the links to the National Curriculum through curiosity and asking open questions (Checkpoints 3 and 4). The aim is to motivate via providing context to their learning. BEST emphasises on the learning journey. Checkpoints 5 and 6 are about the learning process, focusing on enjoyment. Everyone will have a different efficient learning system which is a function of how their brain works and their availability of education resources. The goal is to develop a growth mindset. Every checkpoint so far is tailored to the individual and will be different for everyone. Checkpoint 7 is to bring the community together to be curious about each other’s portfolio in their journey to master their topics of choice.

Subject Matter Experts

The key thing is to get the right people involved. For example, who is the leading person in the field. Who are the experts writing the textbooks that we are learning from? My goal is to reach a level that one can discuss ideas with the authors of these textbooks. BEST will look for articles and related work from the leading SMEs.

Will they respond? I believe they will respond if it is worth their time. I have the author of a textbook that closely related to my PhD topic on Whatsapp and he turned up to my workshop in an IEEE conference. They are keen to share their knowledge, since they took the time to write a book about it and they are constantly looking for new ideas. So it is up to the individual to show that they have unique ideas, questions, which will make the SME want to invest their time to understand and appreciate.

BEST will provide a report of social media contacts, and will be in first line of the communication loop. Pseudonym (like Robert Galbraith) will be used to minimise the potential negative impact of Social Media. A clear training of walking away will be part of the material.

In summary

I am curious about what young people can create with the right environment, system, and people around. If an individual is capable of discussing concepts and ideas with SME, then it is likely that the by-product is good grades and academic performance. The key end-product is a version of themselves who either knows what they want to do or is looking for what they want to be part of their future life.
