Episode 37 – BEST location in Town, Edinburgh.

BE a Scholar Tuition has been quiet in recent months because I have been encouraged by the support and positive response to create a physical location to increase the momentum of my project. In addition, I found an opportunity to continue my scientific journey to further my PhD, AKA my secret Soft Robotics research lab (strictly theoretical).

Drum Roll please…

Little Plaza in Edinburgh

What is Little Plaza? We aim to build a family-friendly community for memories and inspiration. Little Plaza has a wide array of objectives.

My objectives are:-

  • BE a Scholar Tuition to have a physical location, an actual place where each child can show their portfolio (anonymously) and invite relevant experts to interact with them. I am curious about how amazing each child can be. (Memories and Inspiration)
  • STEM centre – Retail STEM products with customised context to maximise curiosity and uptake of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects. (Inspiration)
  • Centre for creators – Add a balance to the modern Social Media consumer world by encouraging individuals to find a mindfulness art or craft. (Memories)
  • My research idea generator – as the Chief Barista (self-appointed title), I believe that soft robotic technologies will be well suited to making Latte art. (Inspiration)

The other core objectives are.

  • Maternity-friendly space to provide comfort and understanding and community resources.
  • Newborn photography – to capture priceless peaceful moments.
  • Baby-friendly space allows parents to try out useful products to help cope with a demanding baby.
  • Events such as Baby gym and other sensory sessions for curious babies.
  • Finger gym products for hard-working toddlers to master their finger dexterity.
  • Bonding sessions and products for parents and children. The parents and child can schedule a time together.
  • Strict Health and Safety protocols will be followed.
  • My focus is aged 6 to 13 (Kings Scholarship age) via BE a Scholar Tuition.
  • Arts and crafts for everyone.

In summary, there is something for everyone.

Have Coffee and talk about Thermodynamics

The Chief Barista (me) can have a conversation about Thermodynamics or any other more exciting topics. We can discuss how I prefer a thermodynamics open system to make coffee than a closed system. Since becoming a barista, I know there are World Latte Art competitions, and my secret (theoretical) research lab is preparing an entry to revolutionise the competition. They would not have seen it coming.

After a quick google scholar search, I think I can still take the research idea to my previous supervisor to check for viability, then get some funding, making coffee, Whatapp the Professor who wrote the textbook on the underlying concepts (yes I have his Whatapp number!), make more coffee, start a crowdfund when the experimental approach is ready, speak with a research group with said fund and idea, do the experiments, write some papers, go to conferences (bring our own coffee BOOC instead BYOB), back in the academic game baby!

I am so excited, so what is special about the Little Plaza Coffee? Drink coffee, contribute to science.
