So you wrote an epic personal statement with classical rhetoric (Episode 29) to convince them that you are worth their time for an interview.
The King’s Scholarship has an interview; at 13 years old, it might be one of the earliest interview opportunities. The importance of each subsequent interview may increase, such as for a university place or the first job opportunity. In this episode, I present the preparations to potentially maximise the probability of a positive outcome.
Individuality can be the final piece of the puzzle
BE a Scholar Tuition encourages students to prepare a portfolio based on their interests. The blog shows numerous qualities, which in my opinion, are valuable. Personal development can be shown between the first blog and the latest blog. The number of topics shows curiosity. The frequency of uploads shows perseverance and determination. The content of the blog shows creativity in an era where we consume a lot more (media) than we create. The portfolio can also add confidence, knowing that evidence of your interests is readily retrievable.
The Internet is a hazardous place, so we recommend the use of an alias or kept offline as personal well-being is paramount.
Other attributes are essential too.
The interviewers are looking for suitability for the role. In the King’s Scholarship case would be excellence all around. I assume every other candidate also gets top marks. At BE a Scholar Tuition, we aim for excellence in the subjects with strong interests and a balanced proficient understanding of the other subjects.
Do your best and focus on what is in your control.
Not every interview can be successful. There is always a chance that there is someone who is more suitable, or other factors are out of your control. Acceptance is the positive outcome we strive for. Rejection will be covered at the latter episodes.
In Summary
BE a Scholar aims to prepare each student to be a uniquely suitable candidate for the King’s Scholarship. We hope each student will gain valuable interview experience, an in-depth understanding of their passions and interests, and a balanced all-around proficiency in various subjects.
